About HRAN
HRAN is a network of civil society organisations and activists working on human rights issues in Nigeria. It arose from an informal collaboration of human rights NGOs to prepare an alternative report to Nigeria's Universal Periodic Review (UPR) in March 2009. The Network has membership across the 36 states and FCT working through five thematic areas.

Mission Statement
Increase the capacity of human rights activists and organisations and facilitate collaboration among them, to ensure they play an effective and high profile role in monitoring, promoting and protecting human rights in Nigeria.
Our Objectives
Building the capacity of member organisations to carry out human rights protection and engage in advocacy across Nigeria.
Tracking, reporting, raising awareness and challenging human rights violations and abuses.
Highlighting failures to meet human rights standards as set out in Nigerian Laws and International treaties ratified by Nigeria.
Engaging in legislative advocacy in respect of justice sector and human rights bills at national and state levels.
Engaging government agencies on full implementation of the National Action Plan for the Promotion and Protection of Human Rights in Nigeria.
Building partnership and linkages among CSOs and Government Institutions.

Operating Principles
Members Network
Through its members, HRAN has the potential to reach all human rights related interests and concerns across Nigeria. Greater impact is achieved through collective effort and influence.
Membership is open to NGOs, community associations, faith-based organisations and other grassroots groups, as well as individuals who are committed to the promotion and protection of Human Rights in Nigeria.
HRAN Diversity
Wide diversity and range of skills and experiences of its members enable wide mobilisation on varied, and politically sensitive matters across Nigeria.
Wide geographical reach also enables rapid mobilisation across the country on issues of human rights and public governance.
Ability to carry out legislative advocacy at both Federal and state levels.
